Tanzania,
personally.
Places to discover. Time to slow down. A little preparation for a remarkable journey.
A journey made personal
Welcome to Tanzania.
Open landscapes, time under canvas and a journey shaped around the people travelling. This guide brings together the places, practical questions and preparations behind an Amazing Tanzania safari.
Use this guide with your itinerary
The guide offers inspiration and preparation. Your dated, accepted ATZ itinerary and quotation define the services included in your own journey. Accommodation, flights and activities are confirmed separately.
Start with the way you want to travel
Tell your safari specialist who is coming, the dates, preferred pace, budget and the experiences that matter. Include rooming, dietary and access requests early so the team can plan them with suppliers.
The northern circuit
Choose your landscapes.
Build a route around your interests and available time. These destinations can be combined with ATZ camp stays and a Zanzibar extension after the connections are checked.
Arusha
An arrival base and a gentle start before travelling into the northern circuit.
Tarangire
Baobab landscapes and wildlife viewing; allow time for an unhurried park day.
Lake Manyara
A compact addition to a northern route, with lake, forest and escarpment scenery.
Ngorongoro
A crater landscape framed by the highlands. Staying nearby can make room for an unhurried start to your visit.
Serengeti
Choose the area for the travel dates and interests rather than treating the whole park as one stop.
Zanzibar
Add time on the island after the safari. Confirm the hotel location, flight and transfers; Stone Town and a beach stay are different experiences.
Timing and the route
Follow a thoughtful rhythm.
Seasonal patterns help shape a route; weather, wildlife movement and sightings vary. Your specialist will check the proposed area, camp position and current conditions for your dates.
- December-March
- The southern plains and Ndutu may shape a migration-focused journey; choose the area with your specialist for the travel dates.
- April-May
- Greener landscapes and a quieter rhythm. Discuss road access and which camps are welcoming guests for your dates.
- June-October
- Explore the northern circuit in the drier months; a migration-focused route may include northern Serengeti.
- November
- A transition period; build flexibility into timing and weather-dependent activities.
More time in fewer places
Balance game viewing with travel days and rest. Discuss optional flights when a long drive would take too much time from the experiences you value.
The ATZ camp experience
Your place under canvas.
Amazing Tanzania Exclusive Mobile Camps bring the camp experience into the Serengeti journey. Your specialist confirms the camp location and dates around the journey you choose.
Plan the camp around your group
Discuss exclusive use, guest numbers, sleeping arrangements and the preferred pace. Ask Reservations to check the appropriate camp setup and travel-date quotation.
Life at camp, your way
Picture time together under canvas after a day in the bush. Share bed preferences, dietary wishes and practical needs with your specialist so the final camp arrangements can be planned around your group.
Make room for the experience
Leave space for the pace of camp life alongside game viewing. Your specialist will explain the proposed stay, the services included and the final arrangements for your travel dates.
People and connections
Make the practical details easy.
A journey feels easier when the practical details are taken care of. Share what matters early, from the first arrival to the last airport transfer.
Airports and transfers
Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and Arusha Airport (ARK) are in Tanzania. Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) is in Kenya. State the actual arrival and departure airport, flight date and connection requirements.
Families and children
Provide ages on the travel dates and the room-sharing plan. Child permit, room, flight and activity charges follow the relevant dated supplier policy. A single percentage discount cannot be assumed across the journey.
Comfort and pace
Discuss walking distances, vehicle access, room access and rest preferences with Reservations. Ask the team to verify suitable arrangements with the property and activity provider.
Travel across borders
For Kenya, Rwanda or Uganda combinations, agree each transfer and supplier responsibility and verify entry requirements for every country in the route.
Before you leave
Pack lightly. Prepare well.
Use this checklist as a starting point and adapt it to your route, airline and personal needs. The ticks are saved on this browser only; do not enter passport or health details into the guide.

Personal health planning

Your journey, clearly agreed
Know what is included.
Read your itinerary, quotation and travel terms together before accepting the journey. Ask your safari specialist to explain any service, charge or condition that is unclear.
Sharing, children and single rooms
The quotation identifies the per-adult sharing price, child charges where applicable, the base group selling price and the single-room supplement. SRS is additional to the base sharing price; selected single rooms appear in the total payable.
Inclusions and exclusions
Check accommodation and meals, park visits, transfers, domestic flights and selected activities. Optional experiences are included only when specifically agreed. Review international flights, visas, tips, insurance and personal expenses against your own quotation.

Use the approved payment schedule and the bank details supplied by Accounts on the authorised invoice. Review the current deposit, balance, cancellation and amendment terms before accepting. Never assume a rate or availability remains valid after a change.
