Community Visits

We maintain direct partnerships with Maasai communities near Ngorongoro, Hadzabe families at Lake Eyasi, the multi-ethnic village of Mto wa Mbu, and coastal cooperatives in Zanzibar. Each partnership is governed by written terms that ensure fair contribution and community control.

Visits are pre-arranged through community leaders. A community member welcomes you, explains their way of life, and guides you through activities — a Maasai boma, a Hadzabe morning hunt, a village walk, or a spice farm tour. No drop-in visits; no unannounced arrivals.

A transparent contribution goes directly to the community. Many partnerships allocate funds to schools, water projects, and women's cooperatives. We do not take commission from community visits — 100% of the visit contribution reaches the community.

Dress modestly. Ask before photographing anyone — consent is mandatory. Approach with curiosity, not expectation. Your guide will brief you on specific cultural protocols before each visit.

Photography requires explicit individual consent. Some communities prefer limited or no photography. Your guide will negotiate permissions and advise on appropriate subjects. Never photograph children without parental and guide approval.

Visit contributions are set by the community, not by us. They cover community time, guide fees, and development projects. We publish our contribution framework to maintain transparency.

We do not arrange performances or rehearsed cultural shows. Visits are to living communities going about their daily lives. If a community is preparing for a ceremony and welcomes observers, that is a genuine moment — not a staged event.

Community visits work best when combined with safari. A Maasai boma visit during a Northern Circuit safari, a Hadzabe morning at Lake Eyasi before or after Ngorongoro, or a spice farm visit on Zanzibar after a safari.
